Welcome to Southern Brittany ! Ideally located, the Ria d'Étel and its surroundings are brimming with natural treasures, fine sandy beaches, and major historical sites. Whether you're a sunbather, a history buff, or a watersports enthusiast, here's our selection of the best outings to enjoy within 30 minutes of your anchorage.
🛶 Our favorite stopovers
1. Étel: Between a charming port and the open sea
Once a major tuna port, Étel now lives to the rhythm of its pleasure boating and its unique body of water.
Don't miss: A stroll along the quays to the famous "Barre d'Étel" (a shifting sandbar at the mouth of the ria, an impressive natural spectacle). Also visit the Tuna Fishing Museum to delve into local maritime history.
2. Plouhinec: The wild bank of the Ria
Located just opposite Étel, Plouhinec offers unspoiled nature and superb views of the ocean and the river.
Not to be missed: The port of Magouër with its historic boat graveyard, and the large beach of Kervegant, ideal for lovers of wide open spaces and relaxation.
3. Belz: The jewel of the Ria
This is where one of the most photographed landscapes in Brittany is hidden: the islet of Saint-Cado and its famous house with blue shutters built on a rock.
Don't miss: Cross the stone bridge to visit the hamlet of Saint-Cado and its 12th-century chapel. The sunset there is simply magical.
4. Erdeven: Wild nature and endless beaches
If you love wide open spaces, Erdeven is your paradise. With its miles of unspoiled dunes and its waves, it's the ideal spot to get some fresh air.
Don't miss: Kerhillio beach for an afternoon of watersports (surfing, kitesurfing) or a long walk at sunset. Also, be sure to visit the megalithic site of Kerzerho.
5. Carnac: Mysteries of stone and the good life
Just a few kilometers from the Ria, Carnac offers a striking contrast between its sheltered white sand beaches and its thousand-year history.
Don't miss: The famous standing stones (more than 3,000 menhirs). After your cultural visit, treat yourself to an ice cream at Carnac-Plage or a thalassotherapy session.
6. La Trinité-sur-Mer: Sailing paradise
A mecca for offshore racing, this internationally renowned marina vibrates to the rhythm of skippers and large multihulls.
Not to be missed: Strolling on the pontoons to admire the giants of the seas, taking a walk along the coastal path overlooking the bay, or enjoying fresh oysters facing the boats.
7. Quiberon Peninsula: Between the fury of the ocean and white sand beaches
A spectacular 14-kilometer-long tongue of land jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean.
Don't miss: Exploring the majestic Côte Sauvage to the west, with its steep cliffs sculpted by the waves (a guaranteed spectacle in rough weather!). It's also the ideal departure point by ferry for the offshore islands: Belle-Île-en-Mer, Houat, and Hoëdic.
